Hello Kitty and Her Allies Claim Dodgertown in Their Steady Conquest of the Free World

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

Gird yourselves: Hello Kitty is storming Dodger Stadium next weekend.Sanrio and the Dodgers teamed up to offer Hello Kitty collectibles and discounted tickets, but don't shoot the messenger — and please, honey, don't cry — but the deal has already sold out.

Even if you don't get a plush Hello Kitty decked in Dodger gear and looking totally adorbs(she's rocking a cap and a bow at the same time), there's plenty more Hello Kitty schwag where that came from:

In addition, Hello Kitty and her friends My Melody®, Keroppi® and Chococat® will make special appearances at Dodger Stadium that weekend and fans in attendance at Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday, September 18 will receive a Hello Kitty Dodger-themed crown.
Hello Kitty and friends will make a special appearance at La Gran Fiesta - Viva Los Dodgers on Saturday, September 17 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. to meet and greet fans. They will visit Dodger Stadium again on Sunday, September 18 to take part in the ceremonial first pitch.

For you sports fans who are still reading (it's hard to get a sense of where Dodger fandom and Sanrio mania overlap), those are the nights that the Dodgers are playing the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yogurt and Hello Kitty are a seamless pairing, but can tween girls and other fans buck dismal attendance stats for a night?

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
