Get Your Hair Did In Your Living Room: Mobile Salon Hits L.A.

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

Between battling Los Angeles traffic and looking for parking, getting to a salon in L.A. can be stressful, time-consuming, and nerve-racking. If you arrive late, staff is liable to give your time slot away. If your appointment runs long, you start caring less about your service and more about when your meter is going to run out. Wouldn't it be nice if your hairstylist, nail tech, or makeup artist came to you instead? Michael Dueñas, a celebrity hairdresser with over a decade of experience, had that very same thought and ran with the idea, launching a mobile salon known as Hair Room Service.

Though established in New York for a few years, Hair Room Service only recently expanded to L.A. And yes, it's exactly what it sounds like: room service for your hair (or nails or makeup). Dueñas' experienced team of celebrity hair, makeup, and nail artists deliver beauty to your home, hotel room, or your office—unless your office happens to be Intelligentsia—on your schedule. They'll deal with the traffic, parking, and occasionally inclement weather to bring salon services to you in the comfort of your own home for any occasion, including proms, weddings, graduations, that self-inflicted bang trim gone wrong, or simply because you don't feel like changing out of your pajamas.

With blowouts starting at $85 and haircuts at $125, prices are area-competitive. A quick call to a number of salons in Hollywood confirmed the same starting prices for their services, but only onsite and only between business hours. Hair Room Service's hours range from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., but services are available 24/7. A $50 surcharge will buy you an after-hours appointment at any hour you want. So even if your days are filled with yoga classes, Dodgers games, and stalking taco trucks, you'll still be able to get your beauty fix in without sacrificing on other commitments.

Hair Room Service serves the Greater Los Angeles Area. Appointments can be booked online or by calling (866) 222-7566.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
