Cellist Gautier Capuçon Makes His Disney Hall Debut

Although we're used to seeing newer and younger artists make their debut with the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl, Gautier Capuçon is an exception. Capuçon is already an established musician (well, at least in Europe), and the demand for him has risen considerably stateside as evidenced by his upcoming solo performances with the LA Phil and the SF Symphony (with Charles Dutoit). The cellist is making his Disney Hall debut this weekend with quite possibly (apologies to Elgar) the most romantic Romantic cello concerto, Schumann's Cello Concerto in A Minor.
He is joined by fellow Frenchman and LA Phil Assistant Conductor (in his final season) Lionel Bringuier, in a program including Smetana's Moldau (except on Casual Friday but at least you get a chance to rub shoulders with the musicians after the concerts) and Dvorak's 5th Symphony. The concerts take place on Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 8 PM, and Sunday at 2 PM. Sister site SFist has an interview with Capuçon about Schumann.
This is an exciting preview of what's to come. In June, Gautier Capuçon will rejoin the LA Phil in an exciting telecast (making it the third since January 9th's inaugural telecast and March 13th's all-Tchaikovsky) that will be shown in hundreds of movie theaters across the country (so if you're out of town, you have no excuse).
Dudamel will conduct him in an all-Brahms program with Renaud Capuçon, occasional chamber music partner and brother of Gautier in Brahms' Double Concerto. If you can't wait that long to hear him again, the LA Phil store has recordings of Capuçon performing Tchaikovsky's Roccoco Variations, Dvorak's Cello Concerto, and Prokofiev's Sinfonia Concertante.
