Erotica LA & F.A.M.E. Awards Expected to Draw 40,000

You've probably seen the billboards and other advertising promoting this weekend's Erotica LA at the LA Convention Center. While smaller in scale than AVN's Adult Entertainment Expo, the 13th annual incarnation is still the city's largest yearly adult consumer exposition, with predictions of over 40,000 people in attendance, many of whom will be women and couples.

Featuring pornstars (over 70 confirmed thus far), burlesque, fashion, dance shows, seminars, and hundreds of vendors, among the new features this year will be a Career Center, Live Adult Auctions (including Belladonna's customized Bella mobile), and the crowning of Miss Erotica LA 2009. Also new is "Hero's Sunday", which allows active military personnel (with valid ID) and the recently pink slipped (after March 1st) free entry on Sunday.

Culiminating the weekend on Saturday will be the F.A.M.E. Awards, hosted by Stormy Daniels. Now in its fourth year and considered the adult equivalent of the People's Choice Awards, Fans of Adult Media and Entertainment holds the unique distinction as "...the first show where the fans take part in the entire process — from choosing the finalists to ultimately selecting the winners in over a dozen categories." Will Tera Patrick become Favorite Female Starlet for the third consecutive year? Will Stoya continue her streak from this year's AVN's Adult Movie, XBiz, and XRCO Awards as Favorite New Starlet, or will she lose to fellow nominees Faye Reagan, Jayden James, Lexi Belle, Meggan Mallone, Nikki Jayne, Riley Steele, or Tori Black? And will Digital Playground's Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge continue its award-winning run as Feature Movie?

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
