DVD Tuesday: Up in Precious!
Following its debut at the Telluride Film Festival, Up in the Air was being heralded as a strong contender for a Best Picture Oscar. The fact that it didn't win anything at last Sunday's ceremony should tell you it wasn't nearly as weighty and significant as early press indicated. Still, it was another solid film by Jason Reitman and another effortless turn by Clooney. I loved everything about Precious except it's ungainly subtitle (fixed that below!). Sure, Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story didn't ignite nearly as many public fires as Fahrenheit 911 or even Sicko!. What shouldn't be forgotten, though, is that the bankers-slash-robber barons he exposed should be subject to vigilante justice. Boondock Saints.....2? Really? Good to see that Old Dogs and Planet 51 both failed. Both were awful. What titles were rejected before Clownstrophobia was finally selected? Ah!
