Re: Art Crawl X This Weekend, Wanna Go?

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Dear _____,

Cool! I'm totally in and excited to see you this weekend too! Yeah I totally heard all about Art Crawl X and am excited to check it out. Isn't it something crazy like over 25 galleries and stores all around Echo Park, Silverlake, Los Feliz and Atwater Village are participating and holding shows and exhibits and stuff? And like at night some are having bands perform and tattoo stations and I heard that maybe that crazy indie-puppet guy might show up.

Since you live over that way, why don't I drive over from the Westside Saturday and we can grab food somewhere and head out on foot to check everywhere out. Or on bike. I hate driving on the weekends! I think you have two bikes already, but if other people want to join us Bike Oven is donating bikes that we can use to get from one location to the next. You just have to give them something to hold onto while you borrow the bikes during the day. You want to start mapping out our route since you know the area better? Here's the map.

You know me! I'm always up for checking out new places and I love the whole art insurgence all around Los Angeles and especially the vibe over on the Eastside (which is why I'm moving there in a few months, well at least on a temporary "test drive" basis, can you believe I'm actually taking the plunge!) I think this will be a great way to find some great hidden gems and let's make new friends! I want to hear about the places everyone else loves over there to put in back pocket to check out later.

I'm also really interested in maybe buying a piece of art. I just bought my first piece of original art this past summer and I used to be so intimidated but Jonny Coleman from Found Gallery is all about making art affordable and available to people of all ages and incomes and so let's keep an eye out for things to buy.

I hear you, there has been so much going on lately! But don't LA flake on me! You know once you get out there it will be a blast. Touch base with me about tonight. I'm going to try and head over there, but I also kinda wanted to go to the Good Party at the Natural History Museum and a bunch of my girls are going to GenArt Party at the Peterson Museum (you have to RSVP to both by like noon today so get on it!). But definitely tomorrow and Sunday.

Can't wait to see you!
xoxo Sloane

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
