After the departure of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, "American Idol" is combing through a list of celebrities in search of the perfect new hosts. They've already signed Mariah Carey, and now, it looks like they're trying to nail down Diddy, too.

The New York Post reports that producers have been in talks with the Bad Boy Records founder, but can't confirm whether he's interested or not. This wouldn't be Diddy's first foray into reality TV -- we'll all recall his MTV series, "Making the Band," which resulted in not one, not two, but five seasons of Diddy grooming young talent whose bands all immediately failed might still have some potential to succeed, at some point in time...maybe.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
