Things got a little ruff for the CHP last night.

A police chase that ended on the 710 freeway in Long Beach on Monday night had a twist ending—a very whimsical twist ending!—when six dogs poured out of the suspect's car.

It all began around 9:30 p.m. when CHP officers approached a Mercedes sedan on the shoulder of the westbound 91 freeway in Orange County. As officers approached, the Mercedes took off, resulting in a chase that got as fast as 80 miles per hour and as slow as 25 miles per hour, according to NBC Los Angeles.

After transitioning to the 710 freeway, it took a second PIT maneuver around 9:40 p.m. to end the chase when the car crashed into the center-divider. The woman in the car surrendered to authorities, but six dogs in her car began to spill out onto the freeway. Luckily, the freeway was closed and the dogs began to run in circles on the empty roadway. From aerial footage captured by news choppers, the dogs appeared to be very playful with the officers. It took several minutes for the officers to wrangle the flea-bitten fugitives.

The woman was taken into custody, and ABC 7 reports that all of the dogs were taken in by animal control officials. The fine folks at Deadspin put soundtracked the mayhem to "Yakety Sax" for our enjoyment.

Police chases are a dime a dozen in Los Angeles, but this one really gives you paws.
