If You See God, This Girl Will Kill You
You won't be seeing the 21-year-old Valencia resident, Samantha Rothwell, for about 16 years because yesterday she was convicted of second-degree murder for the death of an 18-year-old man who made a comment about God. In 2006, a group of friends gathered at Hotel Huntington Beach for a birthday celebration and to go to the beach the next day. Then...
As the evening progressed, several people, including Rothwell and 18-year-old Walter Rivas, were on the hotel balcony smoking, [Senior Deputy District Attorney Sonia] Balleste said. During a conversation Rivas remarked that the last time he was in Huntington Beach he had "seen God." Rothwell got mad and said, "I'm the devil and don't talk about God or I'll stab you," before going to her room, returning with a small pocket knife from her purse and stabbing Rivas in the jugular vein and back, Balleste said.
Rothwell told the others that what had happened was "no big deal," that they needed "to get over it" and "go to hell." She then went to a McDonald's restaurant before returning home to Valencia, Balleste said. [Daily News]
The wounds were severe enough that if Rivas was already in a hospital and not immediately taken to the emergency room, he would have died.
