If you found yourself standing in the line at a UC Riverside cafeteria recently, it might be time to check your credit report: the school announced yesterday that nearly 5,000 credit and debit card numbers may have been stolen from their system.

The digits were allegedly taken from cash registers by a cyberhacker, who hasn't yet been identified. It's also not clear whether most cards belonged to students or to visitors, said Vice Chancellor Gretchen Bolar, which is why the school is notifying the public.

“We are doing everything we can think of to notify people,” she said. “If you used your credit or debit card at any UCR Dining Services location from Summer 2011 through November 16, 2011, you may have been affected by this breach of security."

If you might have been one of the unlucky diners, you can call 1-855-827-2277 on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for more information.
