Good morning and happy Friday — we made it! And we're back to cooler weather that's more typical of early spring.

Temperatures will drop to the mid to upper 60s for the coast and mid to low 70s more inland. We're going to see mostly cloudy skies and even some patchy fog this morning, but come this afternoon those clouds should burn off in the inland areas for a mostly sunny afternoon.

That means for L.A. County valleys, high temperatures will range from 65 to 74 degrees. For the inland coast, expect high temperatures in the range of 68 to 73 degrees. Along L.A. County beaches, temperatures will range from 64 to 68 degrees.

Orange County coastal areas will see temperatures from 63 to 69 degrees, while the inland areas will be slightly warmer, with highs up to 72 degrees.

A heads up if you're going to the beach — forecasters say there is a risk of high rip currents today, with waves from 3 to 6 feet possible.

More east, the daytime temperatures for the Inland Empire will range from 71 to 78 degrees.

It will be cooler in Coachella Valley with highs from 79 to 84 degrees. Slightly cooler conditions are in store for the Antelope Valley, with highs from 69 to 76 degrees.

Tonight's lows will drop to the low 50s and upper 40s in the areas.

Light rainfall, if any, will come after 10 p.m. The National Weather Service says we could get up to a quarter inch of rain this weekend. Saturday is looking pretty sunny for now, but rain is likely to return on Sunday.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
