    Weekend lane closures along the 405 Freeway will happen about every other weekend for the next year.

    It’s about to get slower for a while on the 405 Freeway along the Sepulveda Pass. Weekend lane closures will happen about every other weekend for 25 weekends along the Sepulveda Pass between Van Nuys and Westwood.

    The good news? Caltrans says there won’t be any construction over Labor Day weekend. The weekend lane closures started on Aug. 22 and will resume on Friday, Sept. 5. The closures run from 10 p.m. on Fridays through 5 a.m. that following Monday.

    What’s next: Caltrans says the weekend lane closure schedule is subject to change based on weather and other factors, including the times and dates of the closure and the number of lanes closed.

    Where will the 405 closures be?

    On the northbound side: Only three lanes will be open between Santa Monica Boulevard to just north of Sunset Boulevard. Ramps will also be closed, including the Sunset and Sepulveda/Moraga on- and off-ramps.

    On the southbound side: Only three lanes will be open between eastbound Wilshire Boulevard and north of Sunset. The Sunset /Church Lane on- and off-ramps will also be closed, along with the on-ramp from Westbound Wilshire Boulevard to the 405 South.

    The ... good? ... news: Caltrans says there won’t be any construction done over Labor Day weekend. The weekend lane closures started on Aug. 22 and will resume on Friday, Sept. 5. The closures run from 10 p.m. on Fridays through 5 a.m. the following Mondays.

    What are the alternatives?

    Caltrans says drivers can seek alternative routes and use public transportation. Alternate routes include:

    • Santa Monica Boulevard to the northbound 405 Freeway: Travel east on Santa Monica Boulevard and north on Sepulveda Boulevard to the on-ramp to the northbound 405 at Moraga Drive. 
    • Sunset Boulevard to southbound 405: Travel north on Church Lane, south on Sepulveda Boulevard, west on Santa Monica Boulevard to the on-ramp to the southbound 405.
