Security Stepped Up Across Metro After Phone Call Threatening To Blow Up Universal City Station

Security will be beefed up across the Metro system on Monday night after a threatening phone call was made about the Red Line's Universal City/Studio City station, say officials.The L.A. Times first reported the threat and says the caller threatened to blow up the station but provided few details otherwise. A counterterrorism official with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told the Times that "there is no credible threat against any station," but added, "we have information that has led us to heighten security at Universal and stations across the system."
While officials say "the credibility of the threat has not been ascertained," officials with the LAPD, Sheriff's Department and the FBI say they will address officials at a press conference later this evening to "to discuss enhanced patrols, precautionary measures to be taken."
"Our security remains in state of readiness to respond to any issues," Metro spokesperson Anna Chen told LAist, and added that "we encourage the public that if they see something, say something by calling (888) 950-SAFE (7233)."
Chen says there are no expected delays at this moment, but for up to the minute information recommends following Metro and Metro alerts on Twitter.
