Which Los Angeles ZIP Codes Are the Most Generous To Politicians?

As we speak President Barack Obama should be on plane bound for Los Angeles. When he touches down, he'll be heading over to George Clooney's place for a fundraiser that will bring quite a bit of cash into his campaign coffers.But who else in Los Angeles is giving money during this campaign year? Neon Tommy dug into 2012 data from OpenSecrets.org. The codes themselves are exactly what you might expect. The county's famously swanky ZIP code 90210 clinched the #2 spot for donating the most to politicians—just after Century City's 90067. One of the ZIP codes that gives the least—90201—just happens to be the poster child for local civic corruption: Bell.

Reporters from the website went into each of these communities and talked to locals and donors about what they gave (or didn't give) and why. It's worth checking out their whole package that include a page for each of the ZIP codes. Here are the top 5: 90067 (Century City), 90210 (Beverly Hills), 90049 (Brentwood), 91608 (Universal City) and 90024 (Westwood). The bottom 5: 90201 (Bell), 90011 (Vernon), 90044 (South Central), 90006 (South Los Angeles) and 90012 (Chinatown).

Some interesting facts from the piece:

• Universal City has a high profile thanks to one guy: DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. The Obama supporter has thrown $2 million into the Super PAC Priorities USA Action.
• Most of the cash from Century City isn't going directly to presidential candidates, but about 42 percent of it is goes to the Republican recipients, which conservative compared to most of the Westside.
• Bell doesn't give much money but when it does, it goes to longshot candidates like Daniel Adler who ran for Congress (you might remember him from this) and Ron Paul.
• Only 3 people donated money to politics in 90011 (Vernon has also had its own issues with corruption).
• Mormons are some of the few people in Westwood giving to Romney—but they say it isn't because the candidate is Mormon
