To Escape Police, Man Drives Off Malibu Cliff and Walks Away
A man driving a stolen car made a clever escape from police today by driving off the edge of a cliff, then managing to stroll off from the scene of the crash.
City News Service reports that the man was pulled over at around 1:45 p.m. on Malibu Canyon Road, about a mile away from the Pacific Coast Highway. According to ABC Local, several passengers got out of the car -- a Honda Element -- upon being asked to by police, but the driver refused.
Instead, he accelerated the car, drove over a cliff, then got out and walked away.
It's not clear how far down the car went.
The driver is described as black and in his 40s, with a shaved head.
At some point during this whole ordeal, authorities spoke to the man's wife, who told them that he wasn't armed, and that he's on probation and had no driver's license.
