XRCO Awards 2011: Red Carpet, Part 2

Continued from Part 1.

"It's one of the shows I actually enjoy attending," blogged Bobbi Starr. "There's no pretension there and people are there to have a good time. The fact that there's an awards show and that you might win a heart-shaped wooden trophy is a secondary, possibly tertiary, concern. The awards usually unwind like this: the assorted members of the porno-American community slowly make their way to the venue, hang out by the bar, become increasingly drunk and by the time the show starts, no one pays attention. Whoever has the thankless job of hosting and announcing the nominees has to speak over the din of drunk, idle talk and that's with an in-house sound system cranked up. Inevitably, someone will yell at the crowd to shut up and someone else will win an award without knowing it. The reasons usually being that they were too drunk to get up, they were in the bathroom, they weren't there or -- as is often the case -- the they just didn't hear their name. Even if they do go up, sometimes they have no idea what award they've won. Those acceptance speeches are hilarious."

"My only qualm about last night was that in the program for the show, there was a list of all the awards and all the nominations. I looked on the program under 'Best Gonzo Movie' and... [lo]-and-behold... all the movies nominated in the category were there EXCEPT MINE!" explained Joanna Angel. "Ahhh! I thought I was crazy. I was like, did I actually get nominated for this? Or did I just make it up. I looked on the XRCO website from my phone (I don't know how I would have solved this dilemma had Smart Phones not been invented) and my movie was listed on there. I think it was a blunt way of XRCO breaking the news to me that I was definitely not going to win. Aside from that nonsense, I had a good time. The fun thing about the XRCO Awards is that it is the most unorganized, disaster of an awards show, so it really felt more like a party than anything stuffy or prestigious or important at all. Half the presenters did not show up and very few people who won awards went on stage to accept them. Some of the people were not present, and some people were just too busy getting a drink at the bar to go on stage and accept their awards. I was not offended by this train wreck of an awards show whatsoever. In fact, I found it refreshing."
