DUI Checkpoint Tonight In Silver Lake

dui-checkpoint-silver-lake.jpg The Los Angeles Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint tonight in Silver Lake as part of their ongoing campaign to remove dangerous drivers from the roads and educate the public on safety risks of driving under the influence. The checkpoint will be running tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Hyperion Avenue at Scotland Street.

"Sobriety checkpoints are a proven enforcement tool effective in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes, as well as being a valuable means for heightening awareness of the dangers of impaired driving," LAPD say of their checkpoint campaign.

At the checkpoint they will be looking for proper licensing and signs of alcohol and or drug impairments. Officers will conduct field sobriety tests for anyone suspected of being under the influence. They say "if you fail, expect jail," in addition to vehicle storage costs, license suspension, insurance increases, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
