LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Continue the Suckage
LA Angels (40-33) defeat LA Dodgers (38-32) 6-3. The Dodgers having been swept in their last two interleague series looked to get their revenge on their red-headed cousins down south. A slumping Andre Ethier and James Loney hit RBI singles in the third inning to break open the scoring fiving the Dodgers the 2-0 lead. Matt Kemp hit a solo shot just over the right field wall in the fourth inning for the 3-0 lead. Clayton Kershaw wasn’t at his best but did just enough to keep the Angels scoreless through five innings. But in the sixth inning after a walk to Brandon Wood and single to Howie Kendrick to put runners on first and second with no outs, Kershaw gave up a one-out three-run homer to Bobby Abreu to tie the game up. A combination of Kershaw and Ronald Belisario implodes further in the seventh with the Angels scoring three runs with two outs. The Dodgers had a chance in the eighth inning with runners on first and second, but a double play quashed that. Ervin Santana (7-5) earned the win while Kershaw (7-4) got the loss.
NOTABLE NOTES
- Dae Han Min Gook!. Driving my grandmother to the acupuncturist this afternoon, I had the end of the Korean broadcast of the Nigeria-South Korea World Cup match on the radio. While my grandmother insisted that Korea had to win, she was nonetheless happy that they made it through to the elimination round albeit slightly deflated with the 2-2 tie. Now it’s time for the other half of my identity to do its job: Team USA controls its destiny with a win over Algeria tomorrow morning. Win and advance. Win big and have England win small against Slovenia, the US wins the group. Who would have imagined that when the groups were selected in December?
