After we learn that music booked by The Fold at Tangier is going on hiatus as possible new owners buy the well-known Los Feliz bar/restaurant, we are also hearing that The Malibu Inn has new owners, which is apparently affecting the music venue. Butch Walker posts this bulletin (not linkable) on MySpace:
A legendary bar down the street from my house called The Malibu Inn is closing its doors (sad) due to new ownership. This Saturday the 6th is the final night that anyone will ever play there!! I have seen some legendary bands play this place and it has a massive history in Malibu for hosting some of the best shows of all time. I gotta go pay my respects to T. I think Taylor from the Foos is gonna go play with a cover band or something. I might stand at the side of the stage, foaming at the mouth to get up and play until they let me.
Malibu Inn's website is currently down and no one answered the phone to immediately respond. More to come...

The owner, Mitchell Stewart died earlier this year, and the family had to sell to pay off some of his debts. He also owned concert venue http://www.vault350.com/">The Vault 350 in Long Beach. They closed a couple of months ago.
I lived near this place when i was at pepperdine and I have to say i'm not surprised. Dude may have been in debt, but for good reason.
This was one of the most poorly run places in town, to the point where some bartenders would ask me — the local barfly — about ideas regarding getting people in to buy drinks.
They squandered such an opportunity, as this was basically the only bar in Malibu (RIP Dume Room). Maybe the next owners will use their heads and come up with some new ideas.
