Extra, Extra: Look Both Ways...

- It's time for IndyMac to turn a new page, and it looks like the next installment in their tale is Chapter 7--bankruptcy, that is.
- Police in the SFV just shut down a scam targeting Valley College students, which had the unsuspecting (and, hello, naive) cashing checks in exchange for the promise of some cash and the chance to work for the scammers' "growing company." Yeah, the checks were forged. Stay in school, kids.
- An elderly pedestrian was hurt when he was illegally walking across a street in Santa Ana andwas struck by a vehicle. The man was the cause of an accident just prior to being hit, as a car swerved to avoid hitting him as he crossed the number one lane. He was then hit as he moved into the next lane.
- Remember this guy--the one who stabbed two people in a Fullerton movie theatre during horror flick "The Signal"? Well, he was arraigned this morning, and could face life in prison if convicted.
- So this homeless guy in Victorville finds a purse with $1000 in it, thinks about how that could help him put the $700 down he needs for a place to live, decides to do the right thing, returns it to the owner (who needed that $1000 for her rent) and then doesn't accept her $50 reward. There's probably a lesson in here somewhere, either about honesty as the best policy, or why you shouldn't leave your purse full of cash on top of your car in a Target parking lot.
- State budget cuts make a bad thing worse: Expect longer lines and less service hours at the DMV.
- Know anything about a murder that took place near Melrose and Hobart in Hollywood on April 25th? If you do, it could get you $50k.
- GreenLAGirl checked out KULA Sushi Bistro's happy hour, and wonders just how many of their "eco-claims" hold true. But like we did a couple of months back, she also really enjoyed it. Something to think about for a westside-area happy hour next workweek?
