Happy Hour: KULA Sushi Bistro

It stands to reason that sometimes a good Happy Hour is hard to find in this town. But give us one that combines drink bargains with sushi and you've got our attention. If you're either coming or going on (Big) Santa Monica between the beach and WeHo or those general environs after a hard day's work, Century City's KULA Sushi Bistro's Happy Hour would make a worthy stopping point. Between 5-7 Monday-Friday evenings, the restaurant has discounted drink specials and half-price high-quality sushi at the bar in a comfortable and unpretentious environment.

Recently we got to sample KULA's Happy Hour food and drinks, and, although we would like to forget the humiliation of the Lakers-Celtics game we watched in the bar, we didn't want to forget the tasty cocktails and sushi rolls, so we have these pics to share.

Happy Hour at KULA Sushi Bistro offers the following:

40% off beer, 1/2 price on house wines by the glass, 1/2 price hot and cold sake, and 50% off all well drinks. Half price sushi rolls (special Happy Hour menu) and select appetizers/bar snacks, with one complimentary bar snack per guest that varies each day. Menu items for the special run between $2.50 and $6; sushi rolls come with 4 pieces.

What's nice about the sushi rolls offered at KULA is that they aren't hampered by too much "nouveau" sushi junk, and use really high quality ingredients, including freshly ground wasabi root (not the grayish-green paste) as well as the fish itself. The drinks were tasty, and there's lots to choose from, many of which employ Japanese liquors in them for something a little different than the usual.
