Dodgers Beat the Giants on Opening Day: A Photo Gallery
I've been to Opening Day every year since 2002 and it was starting to feel like the Dodgers simply couldn't win on their first day back to Chavez Ravine. Thank Vin we were playing the crappiest Giants team ever (with embarrassing little league defense to boot) and managed to win 5-0. Chanting "Giants Suck" this year wasn't even that satisfying, as they seemed pretty aware that they suck and didn't even want to put up a fight.
It was an all-around nice day. The opening ceremony had less spectacular jumping-from-planes stuff and more nostalgic let's-honor-great-baseball tributes. My future husband Russell Martin was handed his first Gold Glove (he wasn't miked, but I know he was dedicating it to me), and Joe Torre was very well received by the crowd. Sandy Koufax (yes, THE Sandy Koufax) threw out the first pitch, and Vin let the crowd join in him in saying "it's time for Dodger baseball." The sun was shining, the fans were exuberant, and the Giants sucked.
Rafi had a great game, going 3 for 4 with a walk and an RBI. Blake DeHott DeWitt had his first major league hit and his first major league run. Silver Slugger Jeffrey Franklin Kent has a two run home run and went 2 for 3. Brad Penny pitched 6.2 innings with no earned runs, 2 strikeouts and an RBI (that probably should have been an error, but I'm not the scorekeeper). And Juan Pierre broke his streak of most consecutive games by an active player and spent the day on the bench. Sorry Juan.
And now for the photos:
There's my boyfriend Russell Martin winning his first Gold Glove. I've proposed to him twice and he still hasn't given me an answer. However I feel pretty certain he's sending me a sign, as he changed his at bat song to Kanye West's "Stronger" which (not coincidentally) is the song I use to pump myself up for CrossFit. I can't wait to consummate our relationship. I love you Russ! (malingering)

Hurray for the start of baseball season! Winter's officially over now (and the boobies are coming out to celebrate, I see).
It still seems weird for me to have it start in March when there's still snow on the ground here in CO.

Awesome pics, especially the one of Furcal sliding into home. I think the inferior lens gives it the texture of a painting- very cool.

Greetings from SFist. Good for the Dodgers, bad for us here in SF... our team blows!
