Lady Sov at Avalon

Lady Sov takes the stage
While we were secretly hoping for some crazy antics, Lady Sovereign was on her game when she hit the stage at Avalon on Friday. She didn’t come out until close to 1AM, but multiple cocktails made the time fly right by. Unfortunately, they also made our camera fly right out of our hands and malfunction. We just got pics from a friendly photag also covering the show.

Avalon’s Club 82 hosted some great DJs who kept the crowd dancing all night. Lady Sov, accompanied by DJ Frampster, only performed for about 15 minutes, but the packed house was captive. Her set included hits “Love Me or Hate Me” and “Random.”

The self-proclaimed “biggest midget in the game,” (she’s about 5 foot) has been compared to Eminem, and it’s not just because she’s a white rapper. It’s because she’s damn good. She knows as much: “The best thing since sliced bread/no Eminem/Feminem? Nah/Lady Sov yeah!” And we love that she’s taken defying-the rapper-stereotype to the next level by being white, female and a Brit.

Absent from her performance was crazy ranting, a’la a recent show in New York where she told the crowd she was broke and battling depression before running off stage. Besides suggesting a mosh pit (a few guys took her up on it, but it was pretty weak), she stuck to the rhymes.
