Metro is beefing up their freebie options on the upcoming Carmageddon weekend of July 16-17 by adding select bus routes to a list of no cost transit rides for the traffic nightmare. In addition to free rides on the Metro Orange, Red and Purple Lines, Metro will make 26 bus lines free for riders.

A front yard family gathering turned ugly last night in South Los Angeles, when a 12-year-old girl using a sparkler to celebrate the 4th of July was impaled in the eye with a "firecracker -like device" discharged by someone else in the area. A 32-year-old man was struck and killed early this morning while riding his bicycle. The Los Angeles Police Department say they are seeking the public's help to find the motorist who rear-ended the rider on his bicycle, and then fled the scene. The incident took place at around 2:25 this morning on Vista Del Mar south of Hyperion Way, near Dockweiler State Beach.
