There are some seriously amazing things going on in Downtown on Broadway, as historic spaces are getting new life as restored and reimagined spaces for dining and entertainment. Now comes word the historic Schaber Cafeteria, built in 1928 and heavily damaged during the 1992 riots is about to get a remodel and be transformed into Figaro Bistro on Broadway.

Rap legend Heavy D "weighed 344 pounds at the time of his death yesterday," TMZ is reporting. "Officials recorded Heavy's height and weight as part of their investigation into his sudden and unexpected passing," they explain.

How did two bodies end up in the waters off SoCal's coast within a 24-hour-period? Two separate cases are under investigation in two counties.The first incident involves the body of 32-year-old Sarah Overholser of Oxnard, whose body was removed from the waters at Point Mugu State Park in Ventura County.

Inmates in Riverside County could soon find themselves having to pony up cash for their "stay" in jail. Today the Board of Supervisors "tentatively approved an ordinance to require inmates in county detention facilities to reimburse the county for the cost of their incarceration."

Faculty at California State University's 23 campuses will be holding informal protests today to draw attention to the current "impasse" in an ongoing salary dispute and in the wake of executive pay raises. A strike by the faculty union has been called at two campuses for November 17.

It's a hard knock life: Actress Lindsay Lohan checked in to jail last night, and made it out unscathed in under five hours. Lohan, following strict orders from Judge Stephanie Sautner, surrendered into custody at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood at 8:48 p.m. to serve a 30-day sentence.

A controversial life-size statue of a former president placed in a Newport Beach park suffered damage after a botched attempt by a thief to remove it from the site, according to Newport Beach Patch. The statue of Ronald Reagan, approved in January, was unveiled last month.
