Valley Marine Found Dead in Barracks at Camp Pendleton
Authorities at Camp Pendleton are investigating the death of Lance Cpl. Mario Arias, a decorated Marine who hails from Canoga Park. His body was found in his bed on the base Sunday morning, according to KTLA. A spokesperson from the Naval Criminal Investigative Services have told area media they believe Arias, 19, was the victim of a homicide. An unconfirmed reported published by the North County Times indicates Arias was shot in the head.
"The Marine suspected of being responsible was found outside the barracks where he had jumped from a third-floor balcony," adds the North County Times. That suspect has been arrested.
