  • Tonight Detroit-based R&B legends the Temptations and the Four Tops will be stopping through the Gibson Amphitheatre. LA-based punk rockers the Melvins are slated to headline the Troubadour. And, lastly, local electronic masterminds Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing will be performing a Black Friday extravaganza at Undefeated/Stussy/Union. As good as that sounds, we strongly suggest heading over to the Hotel Café tonight to catch indie rockers Local Natives, who will be opening up for Voxhaul Broadcast.
  • Tonight NY-based rapper Nas (LAist Review) will be performing at Club Nokia. OC's finest pop rockers Hellogoodbye are slated to play a sold-out show at the Knitting Factory. LA-based psych-rockers the Entrance Band will be stopping by the Airliner for Low End Theory Club night. And on that peculiar note, Americana act Dawes are partying at the posh confines of the Standard Hotel in Downtown. If you're looking for something that's free, then head over to the Echo to catch a wondrous bill of LA locals, including Flying Tourbillon Orchestra (LAist Review, #2), Obi Best and Princeton (LAist Interview). But we suggest shelling out a few dollars to catch a glimpse of singer-songwriter Shara Worden's ethereal world. You may remember her name from Sufjan Stevens' immaculate catalog. Brooklyn-based My Brightest Diamond will be playing the Hotel Café with Clare & The Reasons.
  • Tonight Weezer front man Rivers Cuomo will be stopping by Fingerprints in Long Beach. And on the earlier side of things, David Lynch will either be preaching Transcendental Meditation baloney or pumping out ambient noise at Amoeba Records in Hollywood. We're not entirely sure which activity he'll partake in yet. Atlanta's own noise rockers Deerhunter are slated to wreak havoc on eardrums at the El Rey Theatre with the equally abrasive act Times New Viking. And, lastly, Brooklyn-based rock band the Hold Steady are headlining the Wiltern. But we recommend checking into the Echoplex for Check One Twosday. This week Raleigh-based indie pop duo the Rosebuds will be performing with LA locals Lemon Sun.
  • Tonight Portland-based indie rock group the Decemberists (LAist Review) will be headlining the Wiltern in support of their latest single series, Always The Bridesmaid. WEAVE will be playing the penultimate night of their month-long residency at the Echo with Highland Park's own Crooked Cowboy & The Freshwater Indians. And the Monolators (LAist Review) will be closing out their residency at the hole-and-corner Pehrspace. But we suggest you catch LAist favorites the Western States Motel (LAist Interview, Review), as it will be their final night co-headlining at Spaceland with Swedish indie rockers Marching Band. Don't miss out!
  • Miracles of Modern Science are indefatigable defenders of dreaming. Thus they subscribe to the theory that battles are won with brains not brawn. Otherwise, they might not have tackled orchestral pop so literally.
  • If modeling oneself after another prolific, wildly successful band didn't carry such a flagrant stigma in this day and age, then Headphone's 2008 debut Ghostwriter would bring you to your knees. The diminutive Ghent-based trio are among the second legitimate wave of groups to emerge from the latter-day Radiohead sound. And as such, they are liable to heavy scrutiny and, undoubtedly, deaf ears.
  • Tonight Brooklyn-based buzz band Yeasayer will be headlining the Troubadour. Last year they were rocking out to twenty some-odd people at the CMJ Festival in New York. And a mere ten months later they were performing for thousands at this year's Lollapalooza. Talk about mobility! Anyways, Rhett Miller will be returning to the Largo at the Coronet with Murry Hammond of the Old 97s. And local singer-songwriter extraordinaire Charlie Wadhams will be continuing his residency at Tangier. But, in all honesty, we're really excited for the Cure Tribute Night at the Echo. LA-by-way-of-Brooklyn psych duo Gangi (LAist Review) are slated to perform with Hecuba. It'll be a strange night of electronic-infused fringe music, but it is not to be missed.
  • Tonight the "Queen of Soul," Aretha Franklin, will conclude a two-night stint at the House of Blues Sunset. Old 97's front man Rhett Miller is stopping through the Largo at the Coronet. Swedish metal band In Flames will be shredding at Club Nokia. And, lastly, NY-based folk rockers O'Death are sharing the stage at Spaceland with some great local bands, Le Switch and Death to Anders. But we suggest plopping down at the newly renovated Hollywood Palladium to experience Of Montreal. The last time the prolific Athens-based indie pop act played here, nearly a year ago to the date, "I felt like I was tripping on acid." LA's own noise rock troupe HEALTH (LAist Review) will be opening.
  • Tonight the "Queen of Soul," Aretha Franklin, will begin a two-night stint at the House of Blues Sunset. Famed folk songstress Lucinda Williams is slated to perform at the Wiltern in support of 2008's Little Honey. Local multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion will be stopping through the Largo at the Coronet with his adept crew. And Brooklyn-based, Pratt Institute-bred noise rockers Japanther are set to tear down the Smell in Downtown. But in light of last night's cancellation of Kaiju Big Battel, we strongly suggest you head over to Ground Zero at USC to catch Busdriver's sinuous flow and Daedelus' burly beats.
  • Tonight alternative rock band Jane's Addiction will be performing the rather small room at El Cid. Swedish rockers the Sounds are taking over the spacious and recently renovated confines of the Palladium. Local indie rock band West Indian Girl will be continuing their month-long residency at Spaceland. And, lastly, if you're interested tacos and rock, then head over to Señor Fish in Downtown to see the Mormons and the Health Club. But we strongly suggest experiencing Spanish artist El Guincho, who will be emanating feel-good vibes at the Echo.
