  • Tonight Atlanta-based R&B-pop sensation Usher will be charming the pants off ladies at Club Nokia in Downtown. LA-based singer-songwriter Miranda Lee Richards is gracing the tiny stage at Tangier. Texan indie rockers Tenlons Fort will be playing Mr. T's Bowl alongside two local singer-songwriters, Angela Correa (of Correatown) and Rachael Cantu. And Montreal-based noise rock band AIDS Wolf is plowing through the Smell. But we recommend stopping by the Troubadour to catch Halifax's own Wintersleep. The Canadian indie rock maestros will be opening for Portugal. The Man, who find themselves in the unfortunate position of sharing a hometown with a despicable woman—Wasilla, Alaska it is!
  • Tonight the legendary punk rock outfit known as the Misfits will be stopping through the House of Blues Sunset. Brooklyn-based Jewish reggae artist Matisyahu is set to headline Club Nokia with Flobots and Chester French. The Hotel Café Tour, which features Meiko (LAist Review) and Rachael Yamagata (LAist Review), will be coming through the Henry Fonda Music Box. Experimental locals Abe Vigoda are slated to rock the dingy confines of the Smell. And, lastly, Radio Free Silver Lake's Let's Independent Night is taking over Boardner's in Hollywood with the Broken Remotes in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echoplex to catch LAist's favorite alt-rock group Everest (LAist Review, #2). Glendale's own the Henry Clay People are opening and it's free if you're old enough to buy drinks.
  • We haven't seen a Sunday like this since the summertime. We've got Athens-based new wave rock band the B-52's performing at Club Nokia in Downtown. Seattle's own experimental rockers Minus the Bear will be coming through the Henry Fonda Music Box with our favorite Raleigh-based indie pop group, the Annuals. LA locals Tigers Can Bite You are slated to rock at the Alterknit Lounge at the Knitting Factory. And, lastly, singer-songwriter Charlie Wadhams will be continuing his month-long Sunday Night Residency at Tangier. Word on the street is that Tangier will be closing its doors soon due to financial woes. But how could anyone turn down the Part Time Punks Festival at the Echo and Echoplex compound? Not only will some of LA's prominent fringe acts be playing (The Muslims, Mika Miko, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti), but living legends like Manchester's A Certain Ratio will be headlining the predominantly punk-tinged extravaganza. It will be the band's first performance in the US since 1985—the year I was born.
  • Tonight pop rock sensation OneRepublic will be headlining a bill of relatively mediocre acts at the Palladium in Hollywood. If you're looking for the bizarre, then the El Rey is playing host to beats (experimental electro group Gang Gang Dance) and frenetic guitar playing (Marnie Stern). Speaking of slaying guitars, stoner metal is apparently still very much alive and kicking. Head over to Spaceland for some serious headbanging with Miami-based Torche. And Mexico's own Kinky will be stopping through Club Nokia. But we suggest heading over to McCabe's to see Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson.
  • Tonight there are far too many shows to chose from. We've got the second and final night of pop songstress Alanis Morissette at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown. Nashville-based piano man Ben Folds is headlining the Wiltern. Jon Brion & Friends will be jamming at the Largo at the Coronet. SF-based noise rockers Deerhoof are slated to wreak havoc on all eardrums at the Echoplex. Local indie rockers the Little Ones are stopping through the Echo. And, of course, Sean Carlson (LAist Interview) of the Fuck Yeah Fest is up to no good again. This time around he's got Sweden's own the (International) Noise Conspiracy playing the tiny stage at the Eagle Rock Arts Center. If you aren't planning on a sweaty, good time, then we strongly suggest you check into Spaceland. Berklee College of Music alums Apollo Sunshine (LAist Interview) will be performing gleaming tunes from 2008's Shall Noise Upon with Athens-based rockers Dead Confederate.
  • Tonight pop songstress Alanis Morissette will be stopping by the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown. LA Locals West Indian Girl are continuing their residency at Spaceland. Long Island rockers Taking Back Sunday are playing the virginal Club Nokia with Sweden's own the (International) Noise Conspiracy. Prodigious art rockers And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead will be rocking out at the Echo. And, lastly, San Diego's Crocodiles, who are best known as the phoenix that rose from ashes of TPTBUTET and the Prayers, will be performing at the Smell—Yes, that is in fact Kristen Gundred of Grand Ole Party's hubby. But we suggest heading over to the Hotel Café to catch British chanteuse Alice Russell in action. She'll be belting out soulful notes in support of 2008's Pot Of Gold.
  • Tonight Chicago-based hip hop artist Lupe Fiasco will be stopping by the recently opened Club Nokia. NY-based singer-songwriter Jonatha Brooke (LAist Interview) will be gracing the Largo at the Coronet. Prolific psych rockers the Entrance Band will be performing at Spaceland with LBC locals the Growlers. And, lastly, Sweden's own the (International) Noise Conspiracy will be playing a rather small room at El Cid. But we suggest heading over the the Echo to catch Canadian experimental garage rockers Women and Swedish psych rock group Dungen.
  • Tonight rappers Method Man and Redman will be performing at the House of Blues Sunset. We can only surmise that they'll be performing songs from 1999's Blackout!. Brit-rockers Travis is set to play to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour. Florida's own Copeland will be shelling out saccharine indie pop songs at the El Rey Theatre in support of 2008's You Are My Sunshine. You'll surely get your fix of falsetto. Brooklyn-based pop rockers Bishop Allen will be performing at the Echo. And, lastly, psych rock act Spindrift will be celebrating the release of their forthcoming full length, 2008's The West, with grizzly blues rock duo Restavrant at the Roxy. But we suggest heading over to the Echoplex to catch Indie 103's Check One Twosday. Local indie rock songbirds Earlimart will be accompanied by Red Cortez, formerly known as the Weather Underground.
  • Tonight hometown hero Beck will be playing his second and final night at the virginal Club Nokia. As Buzzbands blogger Kevin Bronson tweeted early last night, "Club Nokia's *posh* -- nicer even than finding free street parking 5 blocks away." Memphis-based punk rocker Jay Reatard will be opening the show this time around. The crazy garage rock outfit known as King Khan & the BBQ Show will be stopping by the Echo with Seattle's the Dutchess & the Duke. LA locals The Monolators will be continuing their Monday Night Residency at the hole-and-corner Pehrspace. And, lastly, our personal favorites the Western States Motel (LAist Review, Interview) will be doing the same at Spaceland with Swedish indie rockers the Marching Band, who are scheduled to open the month-long residency. We've heard great things about the band, so head on over to Silverlake to catch them!
  • Tonight we've got our fair share of shows, but nothing extraordinary. Legendary English rock band the Who will be playing their second and final night at the Nokia Theatre in Downtown. Much to our surprise, NY-based hip hop group Onyx will be playing a reunion show at the Echoplex. And local folk singer/song-writer Charlie Wadhams will be kicking off the first night of a month-long Sunday Residency at Tangier. But we recommend stopping by Club Nokia, which just opened its doors earlier this month, to catch LA mainstay Beck (LAist Review, #2) in all his glory. And for those of you who are still on the fence, Jenny Lewis (LAist Review) is also slated to open the show.
