  • Tonight Philadelphia-based rapper and singer Amanda Blank will be performing in-store at Amoeba Music in Hollywood. Seattle-based Barcelona will be headlining the Troubadour with Denver-based pop-rockers Meese. And, lastly, local jazz-infused pop duo Alex & Sam (LAist Interview, Review) are poised to grace the Hotel Café. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch the second night of Local Natives' (LAist Interview) month-long residency. LAist favorites Red Cortez (LAist Review, #2) and Rademacher (LAist Review, #2) are slated to open.
  • Tonight LA-by-way-of-Michigan retro soul singer-songwriter Mayer Hawthorne will be DJing at Amoeba Music for this week's edition of Stones Throw Sundays. LAist favorites Warpaint (LAist Review, #2, #3) are poised to grace Spaceland with former Bat For Lashes multi-instrumentalist Caroline Weeks. And, lastly, Santa Rosa-based indie rockers the New Trust, which features former Velvet Teen bassist, will be taking on Alex's Bar in Long Beach. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Hollywood Bowl to catch prolific Kingston-based reggae legend Gregory Isaacs.
  • This week legendary English electronic band Depeche Mode will be headlining the Hollywood Bowl with Swedish indie rockers Peter Bjorn and John (LAist Review, #2). Austin-based theremin-crazed, indietronica outfit the Octopus Project are poised to grace the Troubadour. New Jersey's own country-infused folk act Roadside Graves will be performing at not only the Knitting Factory, but also the Prospector and, finally, Spaceland as well. And, lastly, Staten Island-bred rapper Ghostface Killah (LAist Review, #2) will be taking on two sets at the House of Blues Sunset with none other than Method Man and Redman, who will be performing together of course.
  • Tonight HARD Summer, a massive multi-stage festival boasting a bevy of prominent electronic acts like Underworld, Chromeo, Crookers, Tiga, SebastiAn, the Bloody Beetroots and many more, will be taking place at the Forum. This year's Rock the Bells, which features the likes of Nas, Damian Marley, Ice Cube, The Roots, Common, Busta Rhymes, RZA, GZA, Raekwon, Slum Village, the Knux (LAist Interview) and many more, is set to take place at San Manuel Amphiteatre. Local producer/musician extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Interview, #2, Review) will be jamming at Largo at the Coronet with none other than Wilco guitarist Nels Cline (LAist Interview). And, lastly, Bergen-based experimental indie pop outfit Casiokids will be performing at Spaceland with the Wave Pictures and Slow Club in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Getty Center to catch San Francisco-based psych-folk-pop act the Dodos for this week's edition of Saturdays Off the 405.
  • Tonight, as always, local multi-instrumentalist/producer extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Interview, #2, Review) will be jamming with friends at the Largo at the Coronet. Legendary San Diegan indie rockers the Black Heart Procession are poised to headline Spaceland. And, lastly, Missouri-based bluegrass-infused rock outfit Ha Ha Tonka will be performing at the Bootleg Theatre. But we strongly suggest heading over to Club 740 in Downtown to catch what will serve as the pre-Hard Fest party. LAist electronic favorites SebastiAn, Busy P and Destructo are all slated to perform.
  • Tonight LA's own rock and roots singer-songwriter Dave Alvin & the Guilty Women will be gracing the Santa Monica Pier. Local psych rockers Spindrift will be ringing in their latest record at Spaceland. And, lastly, Eagle Rock-bred indie pop outfit Princeton (LAist Interview) will be performing at Three Clubs. But we strongly suggest heading over to Amoeba Music in Hollywood to catch NY-by-way-of-LA hip hop trio Sa-Ra Creative Partners.
  • Tonight local alt-rockers Dawes will be taking on their second residency of the week (their first takes place at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa every Monday) at the Echo with Slang Chickens in tow. Experimental punk outfit Abe Vigoda are poised to take on the Smell. And, lastly, Echo Park-bred indie rock quartet Wait.Think.Fast. will be gracing La Cita. But we strongly suggest heading over to Pershing Square in Downtown to catch LAist favorite, LA-via-Tel Aviv transplant Luke Top—who may also be recognized as the front man of local afro-centric indie pop outfit Fool's Gold. Fullerton's own garage rockers My Pet Saddle are slated to kick things off.
  • Tonight Anaheim-based ska-infused pop outfit No Doubt will be headlining the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater with Santa Barbara-bred pop singer-songwriter Katy Perry and Swedish new wave rockers the Sounds in tow. British indie pop duo the Ting Tings (LAist Review) will be performing at Club Nokia with Seattle-based electro pop outfit Natalie Portman's Shaved Head (LAist Review). And, lastly, Swedish chanteuse Lykke Li (LAist Review, #2, #3) is poised to grace the Wiltern with local indie rockers the Deadly Syndrome (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4) in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch Raleigh-based nu-folk trio Bowerbirds. Raleigh-via-Eau Clair trio Megafaun are slated to kick things off.
  • Tonight English indie rockers Gomez will be headlining the Wiltern with Portland's own indie pop outfit Blind Pilot in tow. Costa Mesa-based psych rockers the Growlers are poised to kick off a month-long residency at the Echo. And, lastly, New Zealand-based singer-songwriter and Stellar* front woman Boh Runga will be gracing Largo at the Coronet. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch the first night of LAist favorites Local Natives' (LAist Interview) month-long residency. We Barbarians, the Union Line and the Outline will all be performing as well, with Justin Gage of Aquarium Drunkard on the decks in between bands. Yours truly will be DJing the final night of the aforementioned residency, August 31st.
