  • I was wrong. This was my pregame prediction: USC 24, UCLA 20. Instead UCLA beat USC 35-14, the first time UCLA has beat USC in the Coliseum since 1997.
  • I don't know how the Kings lost to the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in overtime. Actually, I know how. The Devils score first in the third period, a Ryan Carter goal that flew past Kings goalie Ben Scrivens' right shoulder at 5:52. Then 2:30 in overtime, Jaromir Jagr glided through the slot and shot the puck over Scrivens' left leg as Scrivens collapsed onto the ice.
  • Los Angeles teams have had to fight the battle of expectations this season. The Kings looked like a subpar team early in the season, but in the last few weeks they have gotten their acts together.
  • Payback is a bitch. After being shellacked by Tampa Bay on Oct. 15 to the tune of 5-1, the Kings served it right back to the East's-best Lightning 5-2.
  • In a landslide, Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw won his second National League Cy Young Award as the league's best pitcher as voted by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Kershaw also won the award in 2011 and came in second in 2012.
  • Friday night Nine Inch Nails played STAPLES Center. Call it ghosts, aurae, spirits, whatever you will. The Kings feasted on whatever it was that stayed in the building as they walloped the Vancouver Canucks 5-1.
  • With the 102-97 loss to the Miami Heat, it's clear the Clippers aren't there yet. There are those, myself included, that expected the Clippers to look like a well-oiled machine right out of the starting gate. With Doc Rivers coaching, they were supposed to dominate all comers.
  • Watching the Clippers run out to a 20-6 lead over the undefeated Houston Rockets, one question sprang to mind: How the hell did they lose to the Lakers in their season opener? The Clippers shot out of their minds to beat the Rocket 137-118 making that Lakers loss that much more of a head scratcher.
  • DC Comics is leaving Gotham for the sunny Burbank by 2015 the website Comic Book Resources confirmed.
  • The Kings played perhaps their most impressive game early this season, a 4-3 overtime win against the San Jose Sharks.
