After being arrested for protesting the destruction of an Arcadia woodland by chilling in some foliage, the charges against two so-called "tree-sitters" have agreed to a settlement that includes 10 hours of community service and a $60 fine each. The Pasadena Star-News reports that the sentences for Julia Jaye Posin, 23, of Venice Beach and Andrea Bowers, 45, of Los Angeles were significantly reduced -- originally, prosecutors requested more than $22,000 in restitution, and fines up to $3,000.

Yesterday, actress Lisa Edelstein of "House" fame tweeted about a puppy that she found hiding under car. The dog, described later as a chihuahua mix, was coaxed out after an hour with the help of several neighbors, among them Joe Donnelly from Slake Media.

A father and son who allegedly loosed an attack dog on a robbery victim are now facing charges, reports KCBS. Richard Aragon, 51, plead not guilty to one count of mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and assault by means likely to produce great bodily harm.

Amid ongoing contract negotiations and the constant threat of a worker strike, officials representing Ralphs, Vons and Albertons issued a statement today addressing the state of their bargaining with the grocery workers' union. More information was revealed today in the trial of James "Whitey" Bulger, a Boston mob boss who was found living in Santa Monica earlier this week after being on the lam for 16 years. The former gangster testified that he had given money to associates to hide for him over the years.

The Los Angeles Fire Department has extinguished a ten-acre brush fire that threatened residential homes in East LA, according to a statement released by the LA County Sheriff's Department. Still, the city has closed the roads around the fire to make sure that there are no residual hot spots that could ignite it again.
