Up until today, his website's claim that he was the "Funny survivor who ain't dead yet, MF'er!" was true. No longer. He died this morning of a heart attack in the San Fernando Valley. We won't go through Richard Pryor's long career or explain his history. You know it. We'll just say that we think his skit with Chevy Chase on Saturday Night Live is probably the finest and most defining sketch of the...

That Rodger Jacobs is always stirring up trouble and this time, somehow, half our blog-friends are involved. Gridskipper launched an awards thing and all hell broke loose. First there was the campaigning and then there was the remorse. Rodger and Kim Cooper of LAist fave The 1947 Project called Shenanigans and somehow our friend Megan (who tells us that cupcakes are still hot this winter) got hit with a drive-by thrashing in the process....

Hollywood Reporter's Power 100 for Women in Entertainment issue was released yesterday (Anne Sweeney is #1 again). As Defamer noted yesterday, Ms. Sweeney got a fresh new headshot to go with her continued perch at the top rung and, apparently, Lifetime Television and the Reporter think the rest of the ladies need to freshen up. Our own top-secret Hollywood operative - who will only own up to be a female power player-in-training and not...

Jen Sincero is a musician, sexpert, and the author of the bestselling book, The Straight Girl’s Guide To Sleeping With Chicks and the semi-autobiographical novel, Don’t Sleep With Your Drummer. She currently hosts a weekly sex talk radio show called Dr. Happypants on killradio.org. Living in Sin is her weekly advice column for LA's sexually curious, confused and constipated. Got a question for Jen? Ask her. We promise to be discreet (all questions will...

Big ups to our little Saturn Ion! It may not let us ride the diamond lane like your fancy Prius or Honda Insight (although, as Nate Dogg might say, "Hold Up!", is Congress allowing you to ride HOV yet anyway?) but it is one of the most environmentally friendly cars on the road today. It scored an 8 out of 10 in the EPA Green Vehicle tests and costs about 10 grand less than...

Following up on yesterday's post about Sony's wack graffiti blitz, local media assassin, 20mg, took the war directly to the faux art. Our non-sequitor thought while admiring his work? Hey, isn't that the same ATHF ad running on laist right now? We're not usually a fan of online petitions but there is currently one to stop Sony. 20mg has the true street art spirit, though. Why stop it when you can mock it? Update:...

So, when you go see Syriana (and, really, just go. It's smart and complex and detailed and worth at least a great conversation with your movie date in the car afterwards) you should try and bring Stephen Gaghan with you. You'll have questions. Thankfully, Arianna Huffington hasn't lost our email address yet so we got to spend some quality time with the writer/director after the flick last night and hear his interesting but wordy...

Gothamist talked about Sony and their corporate marketing graffiti invading New York a couple weeks ago then Curbed LA had to harsh our vibe by revealing that the cookie cutter cutesy psp stencils had shown up locally. Well, we won't stand for it. Instead we'll point to this excellent photo set by a friend which features some of the last shots of the soon to be demolished LACMA graffiti garage. There was a Chalk-In...

After a week in which we didn't get noticed and only one person entered our interviewer search contest, we've come to the conclusion that you're meh about us. You're really meh about us. Or maybe giving up our psychopharmacolgicals in exchange for Tom Cruise's love wasn't the best thing to do on this fine Sunday. That said, we're extending our great interviewer search another week. Interview your cool friends or co-workers and maybe win...

That pic up there isn't from this current tour but the enormous video screens and incredible visual show behind Paul McCartney's sparse band was very similar at last night's Staples Center show. The last of this tour. We're still not convinced the acoustics of Staples are the absolute best for a concert -- Sir Paul often sounded muddled when he was talking to the audience but maybe that is just his mumbly British accent...
