A rare tropical mosquito making an appearance in the San Gabriel Valley has authorities worried. Last week, an Asian tiger mosquito was spotted in El Monte during a routine call to vector control. The rare mosquito can carry with it some pretty nasty diseases, including dengue or yellow fever.

The dad who allegedly got drunk and threw his 7-year-old overboard during a Newport Harbor cruise last month is being charged with child abuse. Sloan Steven Briles, 35, is being charged with felony child endangerment and one misdemeanor count of resisting and delaying police officersthe Orange County Register reports. Briles could face six years in prison.

The owner trying to sell the home where Michael Jackson died is suing the woman who sells star maps just feet away. The owners, Roxanne and Hubert Guez (of Ed Hardy fame), complain that the peddler's swift business in the shadow of Jackson's final home is driving down property values, TMZ reports.

A man was arrested this morning for killing his neighbor who was hosting a loud party this weekend in North Hollywood, Studio City Patch reports. Caitan Arreguin, 25, was arrested for fatally shooting Rafael Flores Baca around 1 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex near the intersection of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Saticoy Street.

A couple of passengers got drunk and locked themselves in the bathroom of an LAX flight bound for New York on the tenth anniversary of 9/11.
