Saturday night La Luz de Jesus hosted the book signing for Boyd Rice's Standing in Two Circles. If you are unfamiliar with everyone's favorite creepy boy next door, Boyd Rice first recorded avant-garde music as NON in the late 70s, toying with themes as varied as fascism and children's music. Although perhaps those themes aren't always polar opposites. He has worked in collaboration with Re/Search Publications, and recorded an unforgettable version of "Bonnie and Clyde"...

It's Friday. You want to bail but you still have to look busy, and we're here to help with the amazing wonderfulness that is the internet. From making weird things to collecting themed photos, these are people with a mission. You thought you were the only one? Statue molesters. A favorite is the Free Tempurpedic Bed Project. The site says it was last updated in 2007, but maybe we can get this guy happening again....

Love Psychedelico, who have been rocking out Tokyo since 1997, recently released their US debut, This Is Love Psychedelico, on HackTone Records. This week they will be bringing the thunder to the Troubadour will their full band, then bringing it on down low for an acoustic set at The Apple Store in Santa Monica. Here is a photo essay from August, when Love Psychedelico played the Royal/T, Culver City's new "maid cafe". The acoustic set...

Our generation was never quite as obsessed with kitchen gadgetry as our parents were. Most people never seem to venture beyond a blender and a George Foreman Grill. After all, Margaritas and paninis can get you through your 20s just fine. But maybe you are starting to get a little curious about those wedding presents, leftover gifts from Aunt Doris, and all of that shiny, shiny, chrome in the back aisle of Crate and...

Saturday night was the main event in the three-day American Wine and Food Festival festival that started with Red Hot @ Red Seven Friday and culminated in a chef's dinner on Sunday, Saturday evening's event was a full-blown extravaganza. Held at The Universal Backlot, guests were given the opportunity to party amongst rarely-seen sets, such as Spartacus Square, European Square, European Streets, Court of Miracles, and East of Denver Street, I will admit I don't...

American Wine and Food Festival's Red Hot party at the Red Seven restaurant in the Design Center was too rocking for just one post. Usually as an event hits its last hour, things start to wind down, but this party was just getting revved up. Hors d' Ouvres were passed with the same regularity, fresh steaks were thrown on the grill, and even cigars made a quick turn around the patio. The event, which was...

Friday night American Wine and Food Festival started off with a rager called Red Hot @ Red Seven. Only in its second year, Red Hot is a celebration of red meat, alcohol, cars, and everything else that made this country great. An expensive but doable $150 guaranteed unlimited kobe beef and caipirinhas -- a definite bargain. The event was subdued at a fashionably late 8pm, made a little later by road construction and aggro drivers...

Lori Drew's trial date, which was scheduled for October 7, has been postponed once again. U.S. District Court Judge George Wu decided Tuesday to postpone the trial in order to to consider the defense's motion to dismiss the case. The trial was already postponed once from July 29 to Oct. 7. In the Wall Street Journal Law Blog, Drew's attorney "predicts the trial date will get pushed back to December." The charges against Drew stem...

"If it's slower, smaller and stupider than I am..." batter it up and throw it in the fryer! As we entered the second week of the LA County Fair, LAist decided it was time to answer the eternal question: What are they deep-frying this year? We took one for the team last weekend, downing all manner of deep-fried goodies, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. A Food Guide, which can be found at...
