LAPD broke ground this morning on a new Northeast Community Police Station to be built adjacent to the site of the current station despite fears the location may be contaminated with toxic chemicals. The current Northeast Station, located on San Fernando Road in Glendale, is housed in a building that was originally used as a Kodak film processing lab that the department took over in 1983. The new station is expected to be completed by late 2015.

A donut shop in Long Beach is temporarily closed for repairs after a driver slammed his car into the storefront early this morning. Sunrise Donut, near Gaviota Ave. and 7th St., received an unexpected visitor at about 3 a.m. when the white Toyota Camry crashed into the small business. The driver fled the scene on foot, asking the employees of the shop to not call the police.

The next time you and your family pack up for another family getaway to Yosemite National Park, make sure you leave that unmanned aerial vehicle at home. The National Park Service released a statement on Friday warning visitors that drones are prohibited, saying that drones "can be extremely noisy, and can impact the natural soundscape." Park officials also cited the possibility that drones could interfere with emergency rescue operations and could have a negative impact on the wildlife of Yosemite.

A fire at a pallet yard in North Hollywood spread quickly last night and burned down an adjacent homeless shelter, displacing 29 residents. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 12:25 a.m., but within minutes of their arrival the shelter was already engulfed in flames.

Councilman Bernard Parks of L.A.'s 8th Districtmade an appearance on yesterday's episode of the CBS daytime soap 'The Bold And The Beautiful' in an effort to promote pet adoption. In the episode, the 6,816th in the show's run, the characters Liam (Scott Clifton) and Hope (Kim Matula) visit the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter looking for a new companion.
