  • Coming straight outta Hamburg (Germany,) Marco “Tensnake” Niemerski is dance music’s man of the moment. With Tensnake, an it-producer tag makes sense. He’s got the underground cred (thanks to original productions and remixes,) pop radio play in England, and now a big-label double-CD compilation. Tensnake’s no joke. • The Morning After... Podcast visited The Porno Convention -- Exxxotica LA. Co-hosts Eli Olsberg, Jake Weisman and guest comic Dave Ross dropped by the LA Convention Center and chatted with XXX adult stars such as: Joanna Angel, Peter North, Nina Hartley, Andy San Dimas, Jenna Haze, Kayden Kross, Lexi Belle, and Dana DeArmond. Sexual humor ensued. (NSFW depending your W.)...
  • Daniel Barassi is man of many media talents with two primary public identities. The Brat is known by a globe of Depeche Mode fans as the band’s webmaster, creating a constantly evolving site that pleases even the most finicky superfan. He’s also a music producer, giving birth to mashups that've been consumed on the Internet by hundreds of thousands, and heard locally on KCRW. (The above mashup was recently featured on Gary Calamar’s program.)
  • Actor Jon Hamm's (Mad Men's Don Draper, obviously) secret has started to slip out over the last few years. The handsome, Emmy-nominated thespian is hilarious. Hamm was a recent guest on Never Not Funny, the highly successful comedy (audio and video) podcast hosted by stand-up Jimmy Pardo (LAist Interview,) and produced by Matt Belkap. The rapid-fire three-way banter reveals that, while Pardo has legendary timing and quickness (to which Belknap is a great compliment,) Hamm's comedy chops are enough to earn him comedic leading-man consideration.
  • Scott Aukerman is one of the main brains behind Los Angeles’ healthy world of alternative comedy. Comedy Death-Ray, the weekly stand-up show he started with BJ Porter in 2002, sells out the Upright Citizens Brigade Theare every Tuesday. Last year, he started launched Comedy Death-Ray Radio on the post-terrestrial radio Indie 103.1. This podcast features regulars from the live show being hilarious.
  • The Dodgers ended a season full of missed potential on a high, celebratory note. This afternoon’s 3-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, while promoted as Fan Appreciation Day, ended up being much much more. Sure, it was the Dodger season’s final ballgame: Ted Lilly (10-12) dominated Arizona hitters for seven innings (1ER, 9K,) Hong-Chih Kuo saved his twelfth Dodger victory, and Matt Kemp’s two-run home run (his fifth home run in as many days) was the difference on the scoreboard. However, the day was more grand than box score facts.
  • There's a non-ironic celebration of disco that's taking place in nightclubs around the world. Yes disco, yes 2010 -- and you'll find London-based DJ foursome Horse Meat Disco leading the nocturnal gallop. With lauded club residencies in London, Lisbon, and Berlin, Horse Meat Disco express a love for more than thirty years of music (beyond the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.) They explore certain resonating sounds and feelings of the disco era, a welcomed mix of the fresh and nostalgic, that do an excellent job at moving dancefloors.
  • Hollywood's Runyon Canyon is easily one of California's trendiest hikes. Enjoy comedian Eddie Pepitone making his best efforts for The Chair in Runyon: Just Above Sunset, an Everest: Beyond The Limit parody....
  • San Francisco Giants pitchers Jonathan Sanchez (10-8) and Brian Wilson (save #40) dropped Hiroki Kuroda (10-12) and the Los Angeles Dodgers a game further from postseason hopes with a 3-0 win and a 2-1 series victory on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball in front of 43,758 at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers now find themselves nine games behind Division-leading San Diego, and just as many games back from the Wild Card lead.
  • On a recent Saturday night I stumbled upon a joyous gathering on a Western Ave corner. I parked my car and did nearly an hour worth of further investigation -- that is, viewing Almight Opp's puppet show. I was as thoroughly entertained as I had been in recent memory thanks to the efforts of those behind the curtain. They'll be doing it again this Saturday night at the corner of Western and Elmood in...
