A man died after becoming ill while hiking at Runyon Canyon today. The man was reported ill at about 2:20 p.m. at the Hollywood park and died at the scene.

During NBC4's live newscast last night, the station's Robert Kovacik got a little more than he bargained for while reporting in West Hollywood. We're assuming Kovacik was covering street closures for the L.A. Marathon on the 11 p.m. newscast when a photobomber showed up and made a kissy face behind him.

A 71-year-old woman from Palm Desert is recovering from being stung around 1,000 times by a swarm of bees. The swarm of 75,000 to 80,000 Africanized honey bees was disturbed when a Verizon employee opened an underground vault.

Following last year’s deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon, the Los Angeles Marathon will see heightened security measures. Marathon runners have to pick up their own race packets and will only be allowed to bring a clear plastic bag provided to them.

A study from UCLA has determined tweets about sexual behavior deemed risky and using drugs correlate to areas with more HIV cases and illegal drug use, respectively. UCLA researchers combed through more than 550 million tweets from 2012 for terms such as “sex” and “get high.”

Only two days before Newsweek would publish a story alleging Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto, 64, is the inventor of Internet currency Bitcoin, the Temple City, Calif. resident was fighting for better traffic control at a busy intersection in his town. Nakamoto appeared at a city council meeting March 4 to ask for more stop signs to slow down traffic at the intersection of Longden Avenue and Encinita Avenue in Temple City.

A pedestrian was hit by a Metrolink train and killed in Pacoima this morning. The crash happened at about 2 a.m. at Van Nuys Boulevard and San Fernando Road.

An 18-year-old man was hit and killed by a driver early this morning after he exited his car and tried to run to safety following a car accident. The teenager was a passenger in a 2000 Honda Accord that hit a big rig at 4:20 a.m. on the 5 Freeway northbound north of Tuxford Street in Sun Valley.

While cyclists are no doubt bummed at the cancellation of the Marathon Crash Race, a pre-dawn bike race on the streets closed for the L.A. Marathon, a slower bike ride will take place instead. Instead of a race, a “fun ride” will take place at a slower pace over 20 miles instead of the original 26 miles of the previous route.
