What’s the possibility of a drone strike in California?

Listen 12:41

California Governor Gavin Newsom said there was no imminent threat to the state yesterday after a warning from the FBI to local police departments about Iran and a possible California strike. The alert was posted on X by an FBI spokesperson after a report by ABC News. Separately, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on X that the message to law enforcement was a tip based on “unverified intelligence.” This comes amid the ongoing FBI investigation into the attack at Temple Israel in Michigan yesterday as an act of violence targeting the Jewish community, after a man with a rifle crashed into the nation’s largest Reform synagogue. Today on AirTalk, we are taking a look at what law enforcement on the ground is likely doing now to prevent ground attacks and threats on US soil, and what religious organizations can do to increase security. We are joined by Hal Kempfer, CEO of Global Risk Intelligence and Planning (GRIP), retired Marine Corps intelligence officer, and host of the ‘STRAT’ podcast, and Rabbi Steve Leder of Wilshire Boulevard Temple.

Fun-Diggity Funnel Cakes founder talks journey from Miss Compton to food entrepreneur

Listen 10:39

Cheyenne Brown received local recognition back in 2014, having received the honor of Miss Compton. A couple of years later, she’d begin her funnel cake business as a pop-up and organically grow her customer base through word-of-mouth. Having just been ahead of the proverbial pack, 2020 saw an increase in local pop-ups, with Brown continuing to take orders at the time. Her business got a recent boost, with an appearance on the Amazon Prime Video show 60 Day Hustle that led to a more than $12,000 grant to grow her operation. Today on Food Friday, Larry talks to Cheyenne Brown about the growth of her business and tries some of her funnel cake in the process.

What international feature nominee will win out in the 2026 Oscars?

Listen 8:28

As the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has become more of an international voting body, its nominees for Best International Feature have seemed to gain a lot more attention. At this year’s awards, 4 out of 5 nominees in the category received an additional nomination, with The Voice of Hind Rajab being the lone exception. Most notably, of those who received multiple nominations, 2 of them managed to make it into the Best Picture category; the films considered for the night’s biggest award were The Secret Agent and Sentimental Value. We’ll dig into the significance of each being nominated and what the chances are for each film to come out of the ceremony with an Oscar. Joining us for this conversation is LAist film critic and co-host of the ‘Breakfast All Day’ YouTube and podcast series, Christy Lemire.
