Video: Take the Purple Line From Western to Santa Monica (Without Waiting Decades)

We need to hear from you.
Today during our spring member drive, put a dollar value on the trustworthy reporting you rely on all year long. The local news you read here every day is crafted for you, but right now, we need your help to keep it going. In these uncertain times, your support is even more important. We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership. Thank you.

Want to take the Purple Line past the 405 Freeway? You can either wait two decades or check out this video that flies over the planned route from its current terminus at Western Avenue all the way to Santa Monica.

The YouTube user ExpoLineFan took a break from Expo Line cheerleading to upload the video (h/t to Curbed LA). The video flies over the recently-approved Purple Line extension from Western Avenue to the VA Hospital but the video doesn't stop there. It continues on to Santa Monica in a segment that hasn't been approved by Metro (yet).

If you're marking your calendar, Metro hopes to break ground on the extension next year. If all goes well, the segment to La Cienega could open in 2022, Century City's stop would be open in 2026 and the VA hospital would be ready in 2036.

We're not fans of the music in this video, so we suggest turning down the sound and queueing up something with a beachy California vibe. The Beach Boys' "Wouldn't It Be Nice" seems appropriate: "You know it seems the more we talk about it / It only makes it worse to live without it."
