UC Extending Deadline After Computer 'Glitch' Shut Applicants Out

Monday night was the deadline for prospective University of California students to have submitted their applications for consideration for admission for Fall 2010, but what officials are calling a computer "glitch" actually "prevented some filers from submitting their applications," according to CBS2. Because of the problem, the UC is extending the application deadline to 11:59 p.m. tonight to accommodate anyone who encountered technical difficulties while filing.
According to the UC's Director of Undergraduate Admissions Susan Wilbur, as of yesterday the 10-campus system had already received "129,000 applications for freshman and transfer students," which is "up from last year's 126,700 applications."
Freshmen students will learn if they are accepted in March 2010; that gives them plenty of time to figure out how their budgets will be able to make tuition payments. Last month amid protests the UC's Regents voted to approve a 32% fee increase effective Fall 2010, bringing annual tuition to $10,000. By January the UC Regents will know if the state intends to approve their request for $913 million in restored and increased funding.
