With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today.

Two men were shot outside Bossa Nova on Sunset and Formosa early yesterday morning, reports CBS News. Both survived, and were treated for injuries.

The first victim was found by cops upon arriving at the scene. He had been shot in the chest, and was taken to Cedars Sinai where he had surgery. The second victim was found by police at a nearby urgent care facility. He had been shot in the back and was being treated.

CBS describes the first victim as a Hispanic male in his 20s. A description of the second victim wasn't available.

According to KTLA, witnesses said the shooting happened after a fight broke out and someone pulled a gun. Sunset Blvd. was closed at La Brea for about four hours following the incident.

It's not clear what led to the fight. Police have opened an investigation into the incident.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
