Today is 'Free Surgery' Day at Kaiser
For residents who are uninsured or underinsured, Kaiser Permanente is offering free surgery today at its West LA location, reports KTLA. Launched in 2009, the program has helped many who have been suffering without access to care.
Last year, KPCC reported that 67 surgeries were performed in the Southern California area, including in Baldwin Park, Orange County and San Diego. The event is offered four times each year. According to KTLA:
Many of those who take advantage of the program have suffered for years with ailments such as hernias and gall bladder diseases.
Those interested are evaluated individually for eligibility.
