Nothing like knowing that the men in blue have your back! Well, unless they're going to shoot you, pummel you, tase you, or, most recently, rape you. LAPD Officer Russell Mecano, 43, has been convicted of sexually assaulting one young woman and soliciting another for sex while on duty in 2008, reports the LA Times. The two events, which happened within weeks of each other, resulted in Mecano's arrest the same year, and his conviction on both counts yesterday.

The Times reports that Mecano solicited sex from a 19-year-old woman, who was homeless at the time. After arresting her on suspicion of battery, he handed her $200 and told her to meet him at a hotel. (She didn't.) Two weeks later, Mecano found another victim:

On May 28, 2008, Mecano told an 18-year-old female he would not arrest her on suspicion of possessing a marijuana pipe if she had sex with him, prosecutors said. He sexually assaulted her near the Palisades Branch Library, Adomian said.

His sentencing, which could result in up to ten years in jail, will take place on April 14.
