Recession Obsession: Downtown LA's Flower Market
December is The Official Recession's first birthday month. There's no need not to enjoy it on the cheap. We last had some great Mexican food, and bargain massages. Today's inexpensive adventure is sure to please in a different way.
For $2 ($1 on Saturday) you can tour LA's greatest organic museum. Unlike most museums, featuring the stale and aged, this museum showcases only the fresh and fragrant. That's why the Los Angeles Flower Market is LAist's latest Recession Obsession.

Enveloped within Downtown Los Angeles' always-interesting Fashion District can be found the Flower District. Its star sister attractions straddle the 700 block of Wall Street: the Los Angeles Flower Market and Southern California Flower Market (both soon 100 years old.) Our sunny city's Flower Market is the largest in the country.
The Flower Market features many merchants under two large roofs. Go ahead -- wander around. It's an experience to walk through seas of the best and brightest flowers this region has to offer. It makes one thankful California is California. Stop and smell the roses if you'd like, but there's enough square footage to cover that if you keep moving you'll still spend a good chunk of time here. You don't even need to buy anything.
Mind The Recession!
If you want to buy flowers... it's certainly an option. Your wallet would be better off buying them here than elsewhere. But, c'mon, Friend! You should be paying off your credit cards first. Treat the Flower Market as a museum. You wouldn't ask LACMA to buy one of those cool streetlights. Enjoy this walking tour as a walking tour and be glad there is something like this to do for the cost of a soda.
