Prop 19 PSA Parodies: Pro Propaganda Pokes Fun at Pot Stereotypes

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

Stoners are notoriously chilled out, which is exactly the vibe this set of spoof PSA ads a group called the B-Squad has released about Proposition 19, which, if passed, would legalize marijuana in California.

Using some common stereotypes about pot smokers, the faux ads show what life would be like in the Golden State if the drug were legit. You know, like dudes would forsake sex with their hottie girlfriend in favor of watching a "Family Guy" rerun, drivers would break the law...by going too slowly, and, perhaps most ominously, no one would ever be able to find their car in a parking garage again.

A little levity in a campaign is always a good thing, however with Prop 19's potential passage slipping in the polls, these ads might not help. Then again, they might not hurt. Check out the three ads and let us know what you think.

Dudes, don't let this happen to you!

This also happens when not stoned, by the way.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
