Mexico City blogger Alejandro De La Cruz is in town and last night went to see a friend of his play at Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. To his surprise, John Mayer tweeted/announced (twinounced?) that he would be playing later that night. A few hours later, the intimate venue was packed--luckily, De La Cruz already had a front row seat at a table, allowing for some good photos."There was definitely a majority of women in the audience," he noted. "Fans shouted audible love notes and Mayer jubilantly greeted the audience back. There was a brief discussion about Twitter’s relevance in all of our lives — considering it was the reason why 90% of the audience was there — and then he stepped into his tracks."

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
