Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

You may recall the traffic officers who were accosted by a half-naked porn star not long ago, and instead of suggesting that she cover up (not that we have anything against nudity or porn stars, but that was probably indecent exposure), they played along and appeared in the video she was shooting. While on duty. At first, LA city officials played dumb about the incident, claiming that they had no idea it took place and that the officers in question hadn't been disciplined because they couldn't be identified.

But following an investigation, they've been able to identify traffic officer John Dancler, and he has been fired as a result of the video, according to KCBS.

The 23-year veteran could be seen on the video fondling the actress' breasts, spanking her, and letting her straddle him, they report. He was fired on the grounds of misconduct, and is appealing the decision.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
