It's never okay to drink and drive, but one of many reasons not to is that you could get stopped at one of the many DUI and driver's license checkpoints that the LAPD conducts. It seems counterintuitive, but police say that announcing checkpoints actually reduces the number of drunk drivers on the road.

Here are the checkpoints that have been announced, and they start tonight:

Thursday, June 6

The first checkpoint kicks off in K-town tonight from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m. the following morning at Vermont Avenue north of 6th Street.

Friday, June 7

There will be a checkpoint tomorrow at Ventura Boulevard east of Columbus Avenue from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m. the next morning.

There will be a checkpoint at Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m. the following morning.
