Photos: Rescuers Dug Through Garbage Truck For Boy Thought To Be Inside
The contents of a garbage truck were emptied in search of a boy officials thought fell in.
Santa Ana firefighters and search dogs poured through the enormous pile of trash from a truck on Tuesday afternoon after the father of a 3-year-old boy stopped the truck, saying his son was playing inside a garbage can. Corporal Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana police told NBC 4 that when police arrived at the scene the man ran off.
The search took place in a parking lot on the 1100 block of West 1st Street, but, according to ABC 7, was called off when the boy's mother said he was safe with her. The father was later taken into custody and is believed to be under the influence of drugs.
The father could be charged with filing a false police report. That's going to be one smelly cleanup.
