  • Coming off one of LA's bloodiest weekends, gentle killer whales of the sea heard the bad news and came to the shore to bring us back to reality with an impromptu "Sea World" type show.
  • In Brea, approx. $175,000 in diamonds were randomly stolen by three men who randomly smashed a parked car's windows, snatched the bag, and drove off. The diamonds' owner told officers he had the HUGE CACHE for work. Sure buddy...
  • Speaking of eerily similar crimes, ANOTHER random jewlery heist went down when armed men swarmed an Irvine home where two jewlery importers were staying with friends. The men made off with $500,000 in diamonds and precious stones.
  • Police are asking for YOUR help in identifying a man caught on tape withdrawing over $92,000 from the bank account of a missing 80-year-old man.
  • The bloodshed continues... A Hacienda Heights man was found last night fatally shot in his home. Also, a Culver City woman was gunned down early today in the 4100 block of Jasmine Avenue. Didn't we learn anything from Rodney (pre-rehab tv) King?!?! Can we all just get along?
  • Obama will be in LA on June 24th in hopes of woo-ing all of Hilary's friends with pockets big and small. Hilary has already urged her former financial backers to not be frugal when giving to Barack. Wonder if she secretly told them to write "VP?" on all the donations?
  • Pink hearts, yellow moons, green clovers, and now - a magical hourglass! Yes, Lucky Charms will, for the first time in 10 years, add a new marshmallow to it's freakishly addicting cereal. Rejoice! (via Press Release)
  • We're not quite as newsy as The Consumerist, and not as scurrilous as Perez Hilton, but Vanity Fair thinks we are Hip enough to be featured on their Blogopticon - where we are in the company of the elite. Thank you!
  • There's one more day left on the clock for our Rilo Kiley concert tix giveaway. Head over to this part of LAist and leave us your thoughts on the best things to do in Los Feliz before or after a show at the Greek Theatre.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
